EcoDesign, IOT, Lifecycle & Urban Regeneration

ECO DESIGN - URBAN DESIGN - INTERIOR DESIGN
The First Level Academic Master in "Eco design, Circular economy & Social Responsibility" intends to train "eco-designers", new professional figures able to project the life cycle of a product in order to prevent and reduce its impact on the environment, through the application of specific design methods, the use of eco-innovative materials and the use of design criteria guided by the principles of environmental sustainability

DESCRIPTION

The Master’s programme trains designers capable of integrating interior design, environmental comfort, and ecodesign throughout the entire project lifecycle, combining creativity, methodology, and technical rigor.

You will explore the pillars of sustainable design, including:

  • Foundations of ecodesign and systemic approaches
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • ISO 14040/44 and GHG Protocol
  • European regulatory frameworks and UNI/PdR 178:2025
  • Certification systems: LEED, BREEAM, ITACA, WELL

You will work with innovative and circular materials, CMF (Color, Material, Finish), Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) and air quality (VOC, formaldehyde), natural lighting, passive ventilation, insulation, and energy optimization.

The programme includes workshops on genius loci, circular economy practices on construction sites (reuse, emissions reduction, material passports), evaluation tools (indicators and checklists), site visit focused on circular construction practices

TITLE ISSUED

Upon completion of the First-Level Academic Master’s Programme, students will be awarded the First-Level Academic Master’s Diploma in
“Ecodesign, IoT & Urban Regeneration.”

60 CFA – ECTS | EQF Level 7*

The qualification certifies the acquisition of 60 academic credits recognized at European level according to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must hold at least one of the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
First-Level Academic Diploma issued by AFAM institutions
Master’s Degree (Second Cycle or Single Cycle)
Second-Level Academic Diploma issued by AFAM institutions
Upper Secondary School Diploma (admitted as auditors; certificate of attendance awarded)

The entry qualification must be obtained at the time of enrolment, prior to the start of teaching activities.

EU and non-EU students residing in Italy with a valid residence permit for work or study purposes are eligible for admission. Enrolment of non-EU students residing abroad is regulated by current legislation.

SKILLS

The Master prepares professionals for roles such as sustainability-focused Interior or Product Designer, environmental certification consultant, material specialist, environmental project consultant, and circular construction technician. Upon completion, you will acquire operational and scientific-cultural competencies to design measurable, transparent, and standards-compliant interiors ready for both public and private professional markets. You will learn to:

  • Translate ecodesign principles into interiors with high aesthetic and functional value
  • Measure and reduce environmental impact using LCA and the GHG Protocol, producing clear and actionable reports
  • Select materials and technologies based on performance and durability criteria
  • Integrate comfort, well-being, and building systems for superior Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Design in harmony with the genius loci and context, from concept to end-of-life
  • Align projects with European regulations and certification systems, optimizing requirements and scoring

INTERNSHIP

Our Placement Department will arrange a training internship with one of our partner companies. This experience facilitates entry into the job market and provides an opportunity to learn and demonstrate skills through professional practice. For students already employed, the internship may be validated through a project work developed within their professional activity, recognized as a training experience consistent with the programme.

COURSE PROGRAM

PROGRAM

1500 HOURS

Ecodesign

The module aims to provide transversal skills for the design and development of eco-sustainable products, interior spaces and classified groups. Both theoretical issues and pure design aspects will be tackled, thanks to the guidance of expert planners and designers who will confront all aspects from matter: from executive detail to prototyping.

TOPICS

  • Ecodesign fundamentals
  • Regulatory framework
  • Communicate the Ecodesign
  • Green Design & Strategies (plant systems and technologies) Part 1 and Part
  • Ecodesign in the management and planning of commercial activities

WORKSHOP

  • Design of spaces, elements and services of a business in a sustainable way
  • Infographics for the environment

Project culture

The module provides a focus on understanding and interpreting the design of the architectural space and the product, that should be understood as entities that interact with each other in a transversal way.

ARGOMENTI TOPICS

  • Sustainability and environmental comfort
  • The house of the future
  • The construction site of the future
  • The project as a system
  • Sustainability, company philosophy and I.O.T
  • Methodological tools for the analysis of the industrial product
  • Examples of analysis of industrial products
  • Analysis of an industrial product

New materials technology

The course will deepen the study of materials, from a theoretical-artistic point of view and from the specific techniques, with particular attention to information on the toxicity, the relative precautions and the rules to be followed. It will focus on knowing and understanding both the properties and the technical-expressive potential of the materials, to help both research and experimentation.

ARGOMENTI TOPICS

  • Indoor materials
  • Outdoor materials
  • I.O.T.

Natural, artificial and composite materials:

  • Production and processing of materials
  • Properties of materials
  • Examples of analysis of industrial products
  • The life of materials

Product design

Students will be provided with design tools and skills based on a Human Centered methodology, which focuses on the study of people’s needs and characteristics.

ARGOMENTI Topics

  • Industrial production technologies
  •  Raw materials, production scraps for the project
  • LCA method
  • The phases of the industrial project
  • Case studies of product design
  • Reuse & design: designing for reuse
